THOR KUNKEL

Thor Kunkel (born 1963) is a German author who spent his
youth associating with drug friends and American soldiers stationed in the then
West Germany.
In 1981 he got a scholarship onto the creative writing programme of the
San Francisco Art Institute, and following his return to West Germany he joined
the staff of advertising agency Young and Rubicam.
He married Dutch artist Gerda Bakker and moved to Amsterdam in 1992, before quitting the world of advertising to take up writing and directing. His first novel, The Blacklight-Terrarium (1999), won him a major German literary prize and his 2004 novel The Final Stage propelled him to worldwide attention.
He is equally at home writing screenplays and audio drama, and his latest novel Subs will be filmed by director Oskar Roehler. He now lives between Switzerland and the Netherlands.
