The debut presentation from Disturbed Girl Productions is a short film by Joe James, the man behind barbaric-electro artist Himuro Mansion.
Disturbed Girl Productions is a new subsidiary of Amygdala Press that aims to bring visionary, provocative and original short films to the screen.
"Amber's Haunt" tells the story of Billie Amber, an 18-year-old girl drifting aimlessly as she struggles to deal with the aftermath of her father’s death.
While her friends move on with their lives, she remains tied to her mother, Agatha, who herself is trapped in a mental vortex, unable to cope with the loss.
One evening, Billie is sifting through her father’s belongings when she discovers a tattered photo album containing pictures of the bar her parents used to manage. It is clear that the bar was in fact a seedy strip club called “Amber’s Haunt”.
Angry and confused about her parents’ deception, she decides to investigate the club. It is a decision that will trigger a psychological nightmare that threatens to engulf and destroy her.
Joe James said: "This will be the visual rebirth of my music. I've waited years to create my first horror production, and its finally happening. With the help of our talented cast and crew we can really make this a nightmare!"
James Howell, author of the Disturbed Girl novels, is Executive Producer for "Amber's Haunt".
James said: "Joe has already produced some incredible music to accompany my novels, so when I heard he was working on a short film I was desperate to get on board. The screenplay is an absolute page-turner and I know that Joe and his team have some wild creative ideas to bring the story to life.
"Disturbed Girl Productions has been launched because I want Disturbed Girl to develop into a multi-media brand. My focus will always be on writing, but I want this website to become a platform for creatives of all types: writers, musicians, film-makers, photographers, you name it."
James added: "I don't believe in rules, but I do believe in certain ingredients that capture the ethos of the Disturbed Girl novels. These are complex and captivating female characters, themes that question society and challenge the status quo, and powerful stories that stay with you long after the final scene.
"There will be lots of brand new content on this site over the coming months, and some really innovative ways for fans to get involved and join the Disturbed Army. Watch this space."
